Fair Trade Woolens from Lost Horizons

lost horizons 1 lost horizons 2 lost horizons 3Lost Horizons is a Lummi Island based company that has been working with a womens’ cooperative in Nepal for over 20 years. Each year, these women create new patterns and styles of hats, scarves, gloves, mittens and handwarmers which they then knit by hand for Lost Horizons. We carry their woolen goods every year and every year they sell out. They are great impulse buys on a rainy day and also great gifts. Each item is also lined with fleece, making it extra warm and cozy and keeping anything from getting too itchy.

“FluffyCo is a medley of individuals who produce sustainable and design-driven products out of a blue painted loft in San Francisco’s Mission District.

With humble beginnings in 2005 we have since flourished but remained true to our philosophy. FluffyCo’s wish is to provide sustainable products that are all fabricated in the USA. FluffyCo can be found in over 300 US and worldwide retailers including small boutiques and retail giants like Modcloth. FluffyCo can also be found through our own online store, where we offer a full range of our products. Fresh designs can be found every Spring and Fall and are often nature inspired with an urban twist.

We pride ourselves on collaborating with small and family-owned businesses to complete the production line. We always consider the environmental aspects of design, using minimal packaging, local production, water based inks (as opposed to plastic based), and often use eco + organic materials. All that and we still offer our products at an affordable price.

What Makes FluffyCo Special We are a small business that is environmentally conscious and design oriented. Not always following trends, but taking the road less traveled. We are quirky and wild with a thirst for innovation and resourcefulness.”

HS2 HS3 HS4“Happy Socks are manufactured in Turkey at a family-owned factory that have been in the business for more than 30 years. Happy Sock tights are manufactured in Italy, where production is renowned for its high quality. Some specific items and collaborations are also produced across the world in various locations. The factories maintain respectful working environments in accordance with International Labour Laws and Standards, and are visited frequently. Most socks are unisex, made from combed cotton.

Vinyl Record Bead Necklaces from Mali

heishi 2 heishi beads 1These great trade beads are called “Vulcanic” because they were made from vulcanized rubber. At one time early disc music records were made from vulcanized rubber (this was in the 1800’s). This is why these are referred to as Vinyl Record Beads. These heishi (pronounced “hee-shee”) are hard, like a record album. They are vintage, and hail from Mali. Women wear them around their waist, to help them hold their shape. Each strand can contain thousands of these thin discs, usually strung on twine through a pinpoint hole in the center of the bead. There is really a lot of work that goes into these and the colors are vibrant and playful. They are really unique pieces and we are pleased to be able to offer them to our customers. We are getting them from Woman Shops World on etsy and she says that, “10% of all sales will be donated to V-Day, a global activist organization dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.”

Organic Cotton Underwear & Socks from PACT

PACT 2 PACT 1

Cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed/treated crops there is. Most commercial underwear is made from cotton treated with chemicals, then bleached. We believe it’s important to offer an alternative that is also doing something to give back to the community. That’s where San Francisco based company PACT comes in:

  • INGREDIENT SOURCES

Our socks are made with organic yarns at an eco-concept factory in Turkey powered by wind energy. The cotton for our underwear and T-shirts comes from a single organic cotton project and every facility PACT goes through is GOTS certified by the Control Union. At PACT, we are serious about “good” clothes.

  • GREEN MANUFACTURING

We searched the world for a network of factories committed to making organic clothing in sweat-shop-free facilities. And we visit every facility multiple times a year to ensure that you not only feel good in PACT but feel good about where PACT came from.

  • PACKAGING

All PACT packaging is printed with vegetable based inks on paper made from FSC controlled wood in a factory powered by wind energy and the carbon impact is off-set by Climate Partner..
